Rescuers Give Senior Cat A Loving “Fospice Home” After Elderly Owner Is Forced To Give It Up

Pumpkin, a sweet older cat, was fourteen years old and in need of assistance when his ailing owner was forced to give him up. He found himself in a shelter in Manhattan.

Regretfully, when individuals age and lose their homes or health, situations like these occur frequently. It must have been extremely painful to give up a cherished pet, but Pumpkin would not have to be put to death all thanks to the efforts of rescuers.

They discovered that the unkempt senior cat had an abundance of love to share and was as sweet as pumpkin pie. Timber’s Legacy said on Facebook that the cat “deserves to be in a loving home for whatever time he has left.”

Pumpkin was discovered by rescuers at the Manhattan Care Center, where they discovered numerous health problems and dreadfully matted hair. However, it wasn’t deliberate negligence.

The old individual was regretfully forced to enter care because they were also experiencing medical problems.

“Pumpkin’s elderly owner was taken into care and had to surrender him. It appears that his owner was unable to properly care for him as he/she had medical issues of their own. The neglect was not intentional,” shared Timber’s Legacy.

When Pumpkin was taken from the shelter by the rescue organization Timber’s Legacy, the volunteers were overjoyed. Many individuals online promised to look after him as well!

It’s amazing that the cat stayed so loving in spite of all his health problems, but this is a common occurrence with elderly cats that have been rescued.

“Pumpkin is dehydrated, underweight, has muscle wasting and is full of mats. He is also suffering from an upper respiratory infection, an ear infection and ear mites and has moderate dental disease. He also has elevated kidney values,” they said.

The veterinarian would treat all of those ailments and then place him in confinement until they felt it was safe to release him. The endearing feline already had “a fantastic foster home” reserved.

He would never have to worry about anything again because the rescue was dedicated to providing him with the finest golden years.

As you can see, Pumpkin was a huge love bug, but he also needed emergency care for a number of health problems. When the rescuers brought him to the vet, the doctor declared him to be “an absolute love.”

“He loves attention and pets, gives elevator butt and is a purr machine. He was purring so loudly that Doc could not hear his heartbeat properly!” they shared.

“Pumpkin would love to still enjoy the warmth of a home”

Pumpkin had much improved health by the following month. He made friends with everyone in his foster home and appeared like a sophisticated gentleman without that matted fur.

“Pumpkin has arrived at his foster home, and he has fit right in. He’s met a foster sibling pup and cat and loves everyone! His kidney values have leveled out now that he is no longer dehydrated and is eating regularly! Thank you to everyone who has helped him get this far. We can’t do this without you. This really takes a village,” the rescue shared.

Pumpkin’s orange fur has become much brighter!

The rescue thought the foster home—a palliative care “fospice” home—might be long-term because of his old age. However, he has already made noticeable progress, and his orange fur has become much brighter!

Pumpkin’s foster home wouldn’t have to worry about covering Pumpkin’s veterinary bills because of the rescue and the generous donors. You can assist kitties like Pumpkin by liking and following Timber’s Legacy on Facebook and Instagram.
