When a chihuahua and a pot-bellied pig were taken in by the Arizona Humane Society, rescuers quickly realized the two were a lot closer than one might expect.
In fact, the little dog and pig, named Pumbaa and Timon after the iconic meerkat and warthog from The Lion King, seem to be best friends.
In a statement obtained by the Huff Post, AHS noted: “Immediately, AHS staff saw just how strong of a bond these two have, especially when Pumbaa is kind enough to allow Timon to hitch a ride on his back from time to time.”
On Facebook, AHS shared a post about the unusual friends, writing:
“Timon and Pumbaa, is that you?!
Though it’s not always recommended that pigs and dogs live together, this unlikely duo loved to visit each other on occasion during their stay at AHS.”
After their stay at ASH, Timon and Pumbaa were both transported to a local pig rescue, Better Piggies Rescue.
The rescue shared in a Facebook post that Timon and Pumbaa were originally going to be placed for adoption, but they’ll now be staying at the rescue indefinitely.
The rescue said Pumbba has “made himself right at home in the front of the sanctuary” and is a “natural greeter” to guests of the rescue.
They added, “[Pumbaa] needs to be near his best friend, Timon, who we are working with to become a sanctuary dog.”
It’s nice to know these two won’t be separated! It’s clear they have a pretty special bond.
