Bully has witnessed five presidential administrations, the introduction of the first iPhone, the growth of social media, and many other historical milestones since his birth in 1999 – but the Chihuahua is unlikely to recall any of it.
However, when the small dog was 23 years old, his owners celebrated with a celebration he’ll remember for years to come.
Bully spent the first 21 years of his life with a loving family, enjoying the company of his people while playing outside and running in the park. When his old owner was no longer able to care for him, the super senior ended up at The Mr. Mo Project, a senior dog rescue headed by Chris Hughes and his wife.
Bully’s former owner characterized him as a “large dog in a tiny dog’s body,” and despite his elderly age, he hadn’t changed one bit.
Hughes described Bully as “feisty, playful, kind, independent, gentle, peaceful, and he has an old man bark.” “Even at his age, he likes to push another one of our Chihuahuas about.”
Bully need more rest than the normal puppy now that he is older. “Bully enjoys sleeping, and he has earned that privilege,” Hughes explained. “He will fall asleep wherever, sometimes on the kitchen floor, on a pee pad, or on the biggest, most comfy bed in the corner.”
The Hughes family decorated their home in honor of Bully’s birthday and provided him the two things he loves most in the world – goodies and naps. “He doesn’t have many teeth,” Hughes explained, “so we purchased a soft biscuit and crushed it up for him to enjoy.” “He adores sleeping, so that’s the nicest present you could offer him.”
Hughes takes every effort to make all of the elderly dogs in their care feel special by holding parties to honor any and all events with them.
“We try to appreciate all of the wonderful things that happen in our home because there are so many not-so-wonderful things that happen,” Hughes said. “We celebrate when dogs complete cancer treatments, birthdays, adoptions, and have been known to have Christmas in July if we believe someone will not make it till Christmas.”
Bully will be able to celebrate many more occasions thanks to the Hughes family. And he’s earned it at the age of 23
