People working in a hospital are used to extreme situations, and they try to stay emotionally detached, in order to provide the most professional service possible.
But every once in a while, they witness some touching scene they will never be able to forget. This was definitely the case for healthcare worker Cris Mamprim and her colleagues at Hospital Regional Alto Vale in Brazil, when at 3 a.m. on Sunday they saw César, a homeless man, entering the hospital to get treated for a preexisting condition.
While they were asking César about his clinical history, they realized the man didn’t come alone, as there were his 4 stray dog friends patiently waiting for him outside the hospital’s door.
Talking with César, Mamprim learned that he was the only person taking care of the dogs, often giving up his food to properly feed them. “They are all well taken care of and chubby, seeing them like that, waiting at the door, only shows how much they are cared for and loved” Mamprim told The Dodo.
The dogs just couldn’t wait for him to come back, but despite their impatience, they behaved as polite good boys.
After César got the treatment he needed, the dogs were allowed inside and reunited with their favorite human, and both them and César were offered some food, and of course, he saved some more to give to his pups later. After discharging César from the hospital and watching him leave with his four best friends, Mamprim and her colleagues were moved by the compassion this man had for his dogs, a man that should inspire all of us to be a better person for the ones we love.
Meet Cris Mamprim, a healthcare worker at Hospital Regional Alto Vale, Brazil
On December 9, she posted the following message on her Facebook (originally written in Portuguese and translated by Facebook)
They treated a homeless man for a preexisting condition, and soon realized he was not alone.
His 4 stray pup friends were politely waiting for their human to come back outside the hospital’s door.
The hospital’s staff learned that César often gave up his food in order to properly feed his four-legged friends. After treating him for his condition, they offered him some food, and he saved some for his 4 friends.
People were truly moved by this man’s compassion (messages translated by Facebook from Portuguese).
Cris and her colleagues were moved as well, and we all learned a valuable lesson.
We can’t judge people by their car, their watch, or their net worth, but consider the love they are able to give instead. The world definitely needs more people like César.
