Having a paralyzed dog or cat is not easy for every pet owner by their special needs. That is the reason why disabled pets are often abandoned by their owners.
Lunita was a beautiful little dog but sadly, she was disabled and dumped on the streets of Salta, Argentina. Luckily, one of the dog-grooming employees saw Lunita and felt sorry for her, so the kind person called the rescue organization LUBA Salta. Soon, two volunteers rushed over to check out Lunita’s condition and pick up her.
She was found when lying face down on the sidewalk and was tied to a rail near a dog grooming salon. Her hind legs were attached to a dilapidated wheelchair. Beside her, there was a bag of diapers and a note with her name, age, and an explanation. Her previous owners said that they couldn’t keep her and even they didn’t leave her any food or water.
They brought her to a shelter and then she was placed in a foster home. The volunteers posted her information on Facebook in the hopes of finding a family for her. Finally, a U.S family contacted the organization and offered to give Lunita a forever home.
Unfortunately, everything did not go well for Lunita in her new home. The family didn’t know how to take proper care of a handicapped dog and ended up neglecting her, which led to Lunita developing a very serious staphylococcal infection.
It took serious effort and medical attention to help her treat all the ailments. After that, another U.S family stepped in and gave Lunita a home. Along with her new family and good health, she became one of the happiest dogs we’ve ever seen. She could play with her doggy sibling, run around with a custom-built wheelchair, visit parks, play in the snow, and even enjoy birthday parties.
Unfortunately, only a month after celebrating her 11th anniversary, she got sick and had to be admitted to ICU at University Medical Hospital, where she once again fought for her life and passed away surrounded by her loved ones.
“I will never forget her and how much she meant to me,” Lunita’s mom wrote on Facebook. “She changed my life forever. I loved her so much.”
Lunita’s story came to an end and is an amazing example of perseverance. But one thing’s clear, Lunita’s final year of life was the best she ever had. Share this story with all your friends to pray for this wonderful dog! Rest in peace, Lunita!
