Cats are natural-born adventurers but some are more so than others. Like Gibson, the city kitty for instance. He, his humom blogger Sara Klassen and his family live in Toronto, Ontario, and have been on loads of adventures which they share in an Instagram account @TheGibsonChronicles.
Gibson’s Adventures In The Big City
This bold little fellow and his family have had quite the adventures. He’s visited Niagara Falls and many of the city’s beautiful parks and lots of other green spaces, Daily Paws reports. He’s even been on buses, subways, and streetcars. And of course, mom and dad’s car.
“He’s pretty much done it all in this city,” Klassen tells Daily Paws. “There’s more places of course to discover. He is a city cat. He loves the city of Toronto.
Gibson’s Healing Heart.
Klassen was going through a very sad time after the passing of her previous kitty Miso. When she decided to look for another feline friend she found little Gibson, who was just a kitten at the time. He was definitely a livewire, full of energy and very playful. So he became a member of her family in short order.
“From the moment we brought him home, we kinda knew that adventure was in his blood,” Klassen says. “He is always needing to be engaged. He’s pretty smart, so he always needs to be doing something.”
And this little guy is definitely an active kitty. He loves to explore and go on walks and accompany his pet parents on errands. He even loves to be trained and is such a smart cat that he’s actually learned 25 to 30 tricks and is always learning more. Klassen is helping him learn to perform the tricks outside the home.
“I never grew up thinking cats were trainable,” Klassen says. “I never thought that would be possible.”
And now that Gibson has a new human baby brother, Sara has been using little Aidan’s toys to help Gibson learn.
Sara notes Gibson’s example is proof that not all cats are scared of new experiences and don’t have to be indoors only. Gibson always wears a harness and while some cats aren’t crazy about wearing them (my cat Emily turned into a bucking bronco when we fitted her with one), they can become used to them. Together they are showing pet parents that cats love to experience the outdoors and even travel with their humans. And of course, many pet parents, including myself and my husband have turned the front porch into a catio, which our 13 cats love.
Our Kitties Have Also Had Adventures
Like Sara and her husband Pete, we have at times given our cats plenty of outdoor adventures. Our kitties Emily and Rose traveled across the U.S. with us through Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. They also experienced Oregon. They walked across deserts, rested in the shade of giant saguaros and Rose tried to meet an alligator (we grabbed her before she had the chance to do that.)
In Costa Rica where we now live, they found many places to explore and we ran a lodge where they had a blast chasing squirrels, lizards, butterflies, and birds (fortunately they never caught anything.) I miss my beautiful girls. Both have since passed away and wouldn’t trade these experiences for anything.
Experiences like ours and the Klassen family’s show that cats can benefit from experiencing the outdoors — as long as they are kept safe with a harness or in a catio.
One Happy Family
While baby Aiden is the newest member of the family, the bond between cat and human remains strong.
“I think Gibson and I are better together, because I fell like we just feed off of each other in these ways I never could have imagined,” Sara says.
Gibson is definitely a lucky kitty. He lives a life blessed with love and lots of fun things to do but he’s also a blessing for his family who clearly loves him very much.
