How would you respond if someone asked you if you liked cats? The answer for talented singer, actor, and preschool music teacher Aaron Downs was with a funny parody song.
When someone asked if he liked cats, he responded with a parody of Scottish rockers The Proclaimers and their hit, “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).”
“When someone asks me if I like cats.”
Parody Songs About a Wide Range of Subjects
On social media, Downs sings about all kinds of things you wouldn’t necessarily expect but are so relatable, quirky, and funny.
Topics might include:
- Meditating with ADHD
- Life with Type 1 Diabetes
- Chronic Anxiety
- Allergies
- Workaholism
- Procrastination
- Adulting
- Existential dread
- Being an animal whisperer
- Funny moments from school
- Cats (he doesn’t have a cat)
Animal Whisperer and Cat Uncle
When not creating funny songs on topics like these, he’s drinking coffee and singing duets with fiancée Meghan Miles. Together, they are a singing duo called Red & The Rocker.
When he goes to parties, Downs has been called an “animal whisperer,” gravitating to the pets. And he likes cats a whole lot. As someone with ADHD, he can get distracted if he sees a cat, as his T-shirt that reads “Sorry I’m late, I saw a cat” explains.
However, Aaron is more a “cat uncle” than a cat dad. Rather, he has beloved nephew cats.
Occasionally, Downs housesits for his brother and sister-in-law, enjoying a couple of perks: two “cat potatoes.” That is, he loves their two chonky black cats.
“You are a potato, and you are a slightly smaller potato, and I love you just the same!”
Cats are One of His Favorite Things
Although he doesn’t have cats, that just makes Downs want them more, he says. In one video, he explains that two of his favorite things are cats and Pixar animated movies. Put them together, and well, it’s an emotional thing.
“I’m a mess. Two of my favorite things: Cats and Pixar. Happy Caturday!”
Even better, he enjoys a tasty beverage while housesitting his nephew cats, hence “Fresca & Cats.” What could be better? 🤣 Ok, this one is so off the wall it probably made us LOL way more than it should.
“It doesn’t take much to make me happy.”
More recently, Downs took the suggestion of a friend and created more cat-inspired parody songs for Caturday. This time, it’s “Sweet Feline,” a parody of the Neil Diamond classic Sweet Caroline.
“Sweet Feline. Those cats never looked so cute.”
We just love this guy, his funny take on life, and his love of felines. To see more, you can follow Aaron Downs on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
