Kati Speer Krouse and her husband were out when they spotted a Pit Bull dumped in the woods. Kati, a seasoned dog foster parent, knew the area was where dogs got dumped all the time. But this dog stood out. She was starving and limping and in really bad shape.
Kati was worried the dog would run onto the road so she and her husband tried to catch her, and thankfully, they were able to net her quickly.
But it wasnโt until they carried her out of the woods that they could see all the damage that had been done to her.
They rushed her to the emergency vet and really didnโt know if she was going to survive the first 24 hours in care. Kati is pretty sure the pittie, who she named Robin, was used as a bait dog and cast away when she didnโt fight back.
But from that first day, Kati knew she was going to foster Robin. And with the help of Friends of Faye, Robin got the care she needed.
But it was truly a roller coaster ride. Robin had a broken front leg they werenโt sure would heal (it did). The other leg infected with flesh eating disease (it was successfully treated). Then, a few days after getting Robin home, Robin stopped eating and vomited up a piece of towel and needed emergency surgery.
Kati wondered if it was okay to put Robin through all of it. But Robin proved resilient and pulled through and has astounded Kati with her attitude. Robin not only healed physically but mentally too.
Robin is โall wags and wigglesโ with other dogs and the โhappiest go-luckyโ dog Kati has ever fostered and sheโs fostered over 200 dogs.
Robin is such a โunicornโ that both Kati and her husband knew that Robin was a keeper and not going anywhere. And Kati is thrilled that Robin gets to be happy and gets to do everything that makes her happy.
Thank you Kati and rescue Friends of Faye for giving Robin a second chance!
